In brief
Forxiga contains dapagliflozin. Its adult uses span type 2 diabetes (lower blood sugar), heart failure (fewer hospital admissions) and kidney disease (slower progression).
Dapagliflozin (Forxiga): conditions it treats
The Forxiga consumer medicine information sets out three adult uses for dapagliflozin: lowering blood sugar in type 2 diabetes mellitus, reducing the number of hospital admissions for heart failure, and slowing progression of kidney disease.
This listing shows dapagliflozin 5 mg and 10 mg. It does not name the manufacturer of the tablets supplied, so check the label on the pack you receive and confirm with your prescriber or pharmacist that it matches your prescription.
Forxiga 10 mg: 30, 90 or 120 tablets
Compare packs of the same strength. These examples are for 10 mg and are calculated from the listed prices at the shop’s Australian-dollar rate on 8 October 2026, before delivery or other checkout charges.
| Strength | Pack size | Pack price | Price per tablet |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 mg | 30 | A$51.70 | A$1.72 |
| 10 mg | 90 | A$99.11 | A$1.10 |
| 10 mg | 120 | A$120.66 | A$1.01 |
Buying 90 tablets instead of 30 lowers the per-tablet cost by about 36.1%; buying 120 lowers it by about 41.7%.
A lower price per tablet means a larger upfront payment. Choose only the quantity and strength appropriate to your prescription, and check the expiry date. Prices can change, so confirm the current pack price before ordering.
Brand names and Australian strength
AstraZeneca sponsors Forxiga in Australia, where the leaflet covers a 10 mg film-coated tablet; 5 mg is not described there. Farxiga is the name the same medicine carries in some other countries.
Not for
Forxiga should not be used in type 1 diabetes, or by anyone allergic to dapagliflozin or another tablet ingredient, lactose included.
Warnings
The leaflet warns of diabetic ketoacidosis, more likely during fasting or illness, and of dehydration. Infections of the urinary tract and genitals are possible; Fournier’s gangrene, a rare necrotising fasciitis of the perineum, is also listed. If surgery is planned, the leaflet says to stop Forxiga in consultation with the doctor.
Side effects, lithium and storage
Genital irritation, back pain and headache are the common effects. Ketoacidosis, infections, severe dehydration, allergic reactions and low blood sugar (with other diabetes medicines) are listed as serious. Lithium levels may fall. The tablets are kept in their blister below 30 °C, away from moisture and heat. Follow the storage directions on the pack you receive.
