In brief
As Lagevrio, molnupiravir has provisional approval in Australia for treating COVID-19 in adults at increased risk of being hospitalised or dying.
Lagevrio (molnupiravir) and its approval
Provisional approval covers Lagevrio for adults with COVID-19 who are more likely to be hospitalised or die. The Lagevrio consumer medicine information describes 200 mg molnupiravir capsules; the Australian sponsor is Merck Sharp & Dohme (Australia).
This listing shows molnupiravir 200 mg, sold by the bottle. It does not name the manufacturer of the capsules supplied, so check the label on the pack you receive and confirm with your prescriber or pharmacist that it matches your prescription.
Timing matters
Lagevrio’s product information calls for treatment to start soon after diagnosis and within 5 days of symptoms beginning, in adults at risk of severe disease; it has not been shown to be safe and effective beyond 5 days of treatment. Delivery to your address may take longer than 5 days with either option shown below.
One bottle or four
Capsules per bottle have not been confirmed. These examples are calculated from the listed prices at the shop’s Australian-dollar rate on 8 October 2026, before delivery or other checkout charges.
| Strength | Bottles | Pack price | Price per bottle |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 mg | 1 | A$347.64 | A$347.64 |
| 200 mg | 4 | A$1,068.80 | A$267.20 |
A four-bottle order works out about 23.1% cheaper per bottle than a single bottle.
A lower price per bottle means a larger upfront payment. Choose only the quantity and strength appropriate to your prescription, and check the expiry date. Prices can change, so confirm the current pack price before ordering.
Restrictions in the Lagevrio leaflet
Lagevrio is not approved under 18 years and is not used by people allergic to molnupiravir or a capsule ingredient. Lagevrio is not recommended during pregnancy, and the leaflet calls for a pregnancy test before treatment begins. Mothers should not breastfeed while taking it or for 4 days after. For a woman, effective contraception covers the treatment period plus 4 days after the final dose; for a man, reliable contraception covers treatment plus 3 months.
Side effects, food and storage
The Lagevrio leaflet lists diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and itching as common, and names hives, trouble breathing or swallowing, facial swelling, throat tightness and rash as signs of a serious allergic reaction. Lagevrio can be taken with or without food; its leaflet specifies storage in the original bottle somewhere cool and dry, below 30 °C, away from heat and sunlight. Follow the storage directions on the pack you receive.
